Thesis: To consider what the chance intersection of ideal beauty and intellectual confusion would mean in determining the fate of Earth. Phase 1: While touring San Francisco, I stayed at the Sir Francis Drake. The bartenders were adequate. Phase 2: I began a blog. I learned romance might exist, but depends upon whether a man and a woman can tread the maze individually and reach its center at the exact same instant in time. Phase 3: The center comes and goes as if it were a mirage.

Good post!
In essence, the U.S. military is out of Afghanistan, Anita, although my understanding is that there still are Americans in the country who have been unable to get out, as well as thousands of Afghans who assisted U.S. operations there. The term "heroes" I apply to the troopers who have been risking their own lives to get Afghans out, such as the hundreds of Afghans shown in the middle photograph in the cargo area of a military aircraft. The crew of one plane actually "crammed in" about 800, around double the usual capacity.
Variations of coronavirus, no doubt, will linger on forever and ever, just as pockets of measles and cholera and other so-called eradicated diseases still exist. But, I also would speculate that someday covid vaccinations will be part of the childhood routine, just as polio vaccines are now.
Thank you, jente i det fjerne nord, for your visit and your comment. Stay healthy and wise and beautiful as ever ....
I don't usually offer opinions on politically oriented posts, but I'll say this: it certainly could have been handled differently (better) than it was.
Hero: someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty. (not necessarily the same as what one might consider a "personal hero")
Thank you sirđIt is insane what you tell, and the picture of it too.Wonder how it all will go.On the news Taliban seems rather stabile but I am more worried of the wild gang of gerilja out there.I hope they (those who want out)can cross via Pakistan
Tusen takk fine mann
Anita
My opinion is that the word "hero" has to be among the most overused and inaccurately used words in the English (or any) language. I also think the media is largely responsible for that situation in its relentless search for "brownie points," and retail merchants are not far behind the media in their relentless search for more and more customers.
In terms of "above and beyond," the air crews who packed their aircraft to the maximum and beyond with Afghans certainly qualify in that sense. Bravo, U.S. Air Force.
As someone who spent a number of years trying to ensure all viewpoints of all issues encountered were fairly and equally represented, I believe both the "stay" and the "leave" factions regarding Afghanistan have good arguments. Personally, I think it is time to depart, but from my point of view, good, old Joe Biden now is "King of Dumb Ass Mountain." Fiasco does not come close to adequately describing the idiotic way departure was handled.
Incidentally, I won a few editorial writing contests by not being hesitant to dive headfirst into controversial topics and managed to ignore threats and offers of money and sex regarding certain stances. I had a guy "sucker punch" me on one occasion, and all he got in response as he turned and literally ran away was a grinning smirk. Hmmmm .... how much audacity is too much audacity ....
On that note, Kelly, thank you, for your visit and your comment. I hope the nasty weather is not directly affecting you and your crew, and wish you an endless supply of good fortune ....
Time will tell what happens in Afghanistan and that region of the world. China and Russia and Iran will be the key players now, and there is an endless supply of local "warlords" to ensure drugs will be shipped here and there and everywhere and a "wild west" atmosphere prevails in the countryside. As for the Taliban, based on their record and their stated goals, I would guess their future will be pretty much like their past.
Yes, "Heroes" is a nice song with a great deal of symbolism and David Bowie was a very creative individual. I do not think he had the vocal talent of Freddy Mercury, but they both were giants. I did see Bowie in his "Glass Spider" tour. Rolling Stone did not like the performance, but I think with dancers and theatrics mingled with the music, it was the best and most imaginative concert I ever have experienced. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to see Freddy and Queen, and never will now.
Thank you, once again, Anita, for your return visit and comment. As always, take care and stay safe and be happy and, in the spirit of David Coverdale, fear nothing or no one ....
