Music & the imagination

Where have the beautiful songs gone?

Here are three songs better heard than watched. No distractions to take you away from the melody and the lyrics. Videos are to songs what films are to books; sometimes they engage and enlarge, more often they diminish the beauty and the power of imagination. Close your eyes and drift along to wherever the power of your imagination takes you with this music from three very different sounds (the first two very beautiful sounds, as well) from three heavy duty rock bands.

Boston: A Man I'll Never Be -- 1978
A song for dreamers (wanna cry?)

Led Zeppelin: All My Love -- 1978
The poet's song (wanna dance?)

Metallica: Nothing Else Matters -- 1991
A song of strength (wanna smile?)

Cześć Fram the Wolf :-) I love your songs too, very much, lyrics is so beautiful, I love all three, but especially first, and second, and third. Tank you! :-) A lot of sun and hugs, and kiss goes to my favorite resident of Minnesota :-) Bye, bye.

Mr Fram, this is spooky. No, really, mate, this is just... to much to bear. OK, here's a classic example of synchronicity, which I mentioned on this blog some weeks ago.

Last night I was on youtube watching clips of Metallica and the San Francisco Phillarmonic because the day before I had just finished a special editions of the 'Road Songs' section I used to write on my blog a couple of years ago. So, I was torn between choosing 'One' or 'Nothing Else Matters'. Despite the fact that the post is finished and will appear on my site on Wednesday 15th July I felt that there was a missing piece, or rather two missing pieces, and one of the songs that provided the perfect excuse to discuss the pleasures of driving was this particular track.

With the Zep a similar incident happened. I am working now on some of the content for the autumn and Led Zeppelin will feature a couple of times. This morning I was listening to a compilation CD I made with some of their biggest hits and I was dancing in the kitchen. Sadly I have not got this great song in the comps, but boy, did I enjoy listening to it now!

Keep rocking, man, keep rocking! I am still laughing at yet another 'coincidence'.

Greetings from London.

Nothing Else Matters remains one of my favourite songs ever, I can listen to it over and over again, so thanks for providing yet another opportunity to indulge!

Yes, Kelly. I knew you would like the songs.

I also know just how busy you have been at work, so I really appreciate you taking the time to stop by and visit me. Thank you, for sharing your time with me.

Yes, Magdalena of the Morning, the lyrics are pretty special in all three songs, and the first is just plain the prettiest of the three, I think. It is no secret Boston is my favorite band, mostly because of Brad Delp's voice, and Tom Scholz's guitar magic and song writing talent.

The sun and the hug and the kiss all arrived. Thank you.

I would not even hazard a guess at how much broader your taste, interest and knowledge are than is mine regarding music, CiL, but in terms of god's gift of rock and roll, I think our worlds might cross paths or otherwise link innumerable times.

Another "sort of" linkage along the weaving path here is that I almost used Metallica a few days ago, with the thought of running the Scorpions' song, "Still Loving You," as an element to this post. A further twist is that the Scorpion's were accused of copying Metallica's appearance with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra when they tied in with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for a concert. In fact, if publicly-known negotiations count, the Scorpions were the first. In any case, the uniting of these diverse musicians is nothing other than spectacular.

For personal, sentimental reasons, and sheer power of music, I would join most of the rest of the world in acknowledging "Stairway to Heaven" as the greatest of the Led Zeppelin songs, but this one, "All My Love," really is my favorite. "Kashmir" probably ranks third.

Dancing in the kitchen, hah? I think the pair of us would have made quite the sight had our lives included attending the same school as teenagers. I can envision us, passing each other in a hallway, dancing along in our own directions, lost to the world in our own music, immune to the quizzical stares from others.

One of my hobbies was, is and shall continue to be assisting young ladies to indulge themselves, Polly.

"Nothing Else Matters" is a strange song to me in the sense it is gentle and contemplative for so much of it, but there are moments you recognize a simmering volcano just below the surface, ready to explode.

Thank you, for your visit.

I know it’s time, Fram… Something has died inside me and I can’t tell how long it would take to get back…
I translated my own old poem recently (my first translation), will try to record this week.
Thank you for stopping by and your loyalty…

I look forward to reading/hearing/seeing your translation, Natalie, and to a quick return at writing some new pieces.

In regard to the visit, you bet. In regard to loyalty, Semper Fidelis. These streets are all two-way.

Finally someone who listens to a Led Zep number other than 'Stairway to Heaven'! :) Fabulous songs Fram. Brought back a few college time memories.
I hope I havent rubbed you off the wrong way with the carelessly worded last post.

Never fear, Piper, I might argue with you for hours at a time, but then we could kiss and make up.

I have been trying to figure out a comment for your latest post. It is making me think, and I have been trying to avoid that recently.

Thanks Fram. I am enjoying listening to these songs but will refrain from further comment as I have totally used up my quota of blog comments for this week and must spend some time on my primary task of this summer!

That is just fine, Peggy .... thank you for listening.
